Is IBrowse 2.1 worth it?
Many have now downloaded and paid for the long awaited IBrowse update, version 2.1. Though it sports
alot of longed for features, like Javascript and HTML 4 extensions, many felt that the update was
a big disappointment. But why?
The first thing you notice about the browser is the unstabile interface. When you are altering the settings,
the gui scales and fixes itself in one position, then fixes itself in another, often disturbing the
menu option text. Also, the buttons and fastlinks can not be moved around anymore like in Ibrowse 1.22.
If you are uneasy with the interface, you suddenly meet a system alert - which can lead to a system crash.
But let us be easy on the browser. The gui flaws will propably be corrected in IB2.2, so you just have to wait a
little longer (sigh). But there are so many problems that has risen. Given the fact that my keyfile has not
yet been delivered to me, the demo mode could be blamed for most of the problems, but why? A demonstration
should never be this annoying!
The new features of IBrowse are great, but not impressive, as IBrowse does not have Shockwave Flash or Java VM,
how can IBrowse hold its position as the best Amiga browser when Voyager 3 has got more features and works better?
Ok, take my word for it, Voyager 3 is impressive! I have been an IBrowse user for a long time, I never could
like Voyager before, but IBrowse has regressed. Now, I will not condemn the program in any way, I only say,
IBrowse 2.1 should still be in beta testing, I am looking forward to getting hold of v2.2. But there is alot to fix, so do
not expect the upgrade soon.
As a final word, I would like to ask the developer community when we can expect to see bug free, or near bug free
programs. It is tiering to know that few Amiga applications are stabile anymore. It sets the Amiga in bad light.
Does this mean that the Amiga OS is not as stabile as we'd like, or do we have lousy developers?
